CFD Calculations of Average Flow Parameters around the Rotor of a Savonius Wind Turbine

The geometry of a conventional two-bladed Savonius rotor was used in this study based on report available the literature. A two-dimensional model consisting two buckets and an overlap ratio 0.1 prepared. unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations eddy-viscosity turbulence SST k-ω were employed order to solve fluid motion numerically. Instantaneous velocities pressures calculated at defined points around then averaged. research shows that operating significantly modifies flow downwind part wake, but impact tip speed average velocity distribution is small. This parameter has much greater influence characteristics aerodynamic moment static pressure wake. In upwind rotor, parallel direction undisturbed 29% lower than part.
